In the early 2010s, Xbox Live profiles were primarily accessible through the Xbox console itself. Players who wanted to check their achievements, review game progress, or view friends activity had to log in directly from their console.
Recognizing this limitation, I designed and developed Live Profile for Windows Phone—a mobile application that allowed Xbox players to access their Xbox Live profile information directly from their smartphones.
The goal was simple yet powerful:
Bring console profile visibility to mobile devices before it officially existed.
The app enabled users to:
Later, Microsoft introduced the Xbox Companion app, which provided similar functionality. This validated the idea and demonstrated that the concept addressed a real user need in the gaming community.
Identifying the Gap
At the time, Xbox Live profile access was console‑restricted. There was no official mobile solution available.
Concept Development
The idea was to replicate essential Xbox Live profile visibility in a lightweight mobile interface.
UI/UX Design
Following Metro design principles:
Implementation
Built a structured system to retrieve and display profile information clearly and efficiently within Windows Phone’s design constraints.
Optimization
Ensured smooth performance on lower-end Windows Phone devices.
Live Profile successfully delivered Xbox Live profile visibility to mobile users before Microsoft officially entered the space with the Xbox Companion app.
While later replaced conceptually by Microsoft's official solution, the project demonstrated:
It remains an example of building innovative functionality ahead of official ecosystem support.
