This project involved designing business cards for the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012 finalist team, created shortly before traveling to the global finals. With only a few hours available before departure, the objective was to quickly produce a professional card that could represent both the team members and the project developed over several weeks of preparation.
The design followed Microsoft’s Metro design principles, which were introduced with Windows 8. This design philosophy emphasizes minimalism, clarity, and content‑first interfaces, avoiding unnecessary visual elements such as heavy borders, shadows, or decorative chrome. The goal is to reduce distractions and keep the focus on information.
Each card was designed to serve two purposes: introduce individual team members and provide quick digital access to project information. The front side presents the team identity and member details in a clean, modern layout, while the back side integrates Microsoft Tag and QR code technology to connect recipients directly to online resources.
Card Structure
Despite the extremely tight timeline, the final design delivered a clean, modern, and technology‑focused business card that reflected both Microsoft’s design philosophy and the team’s innovative project. The inclusion of digital access points allowed recipients to quickly explore the project online, making the cards both informational and interactive.
This project highlights the ability to apply design systems under pressure, translating platform guidelines into effective branding materials in a very limited timeframe.
